Languages http://tiava.in.net/ www.tiava.com I got £9 to do stand-up there. I had to move back in with my father and stepmother for several months, which didn’t go down very well. I’d applied to the BBC to be a trainee radio producer – I was one of about 10,000 who applied, I think. I was convinced that I could make it as a stand-up. I love the theatre http://beegcom.in.net/ beeg video I wonder if it has affected the way she hears other people’s versions of themselves. There is a wonderful line, quoted from Diane Arbus in more than one of Malcolm’s writings, about ‘the point between what you want people to know about you and what you can’t help people knowing about you’. This, Malcolm says, is what gives journalism, ‘written or pictorial’, its edge. ‘If it has,’ she replies, ‘it must be unconscious. don’t feel I have many choices, to present them this way or that way – I present them as they seem to have presented themselves to me.’
